Muskingum senior Logan Kimble erupted for a career-high 31 points to lead the Muskie men's basketball team past Waynesburg in its season opener on Saturday, 70-65.
Kimble led the Muskies hitting on 9-of-13 from the field, which included making 3-of-5 from behind the arc. He also had a game-high eight rebounds, with four steals and two blocks.
Sophomore Josh Glass scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds with two assists in his collegiate debut.
Junior Christian Keller scored nine points and junior Cody Seiler added eight points. Sophomore Teryn Jarrett rounded out the strong Muskie effort with six points.
For the game, Muskingum shot .477 (21-of-44) from the field and corralled 31 rebounds.
Jacob Fleegle led Waynesburg with 20 points, while DJ Ritchie added 12 points. Jason Propst grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets ended the outing shooting .344 (22-of-64) from the floor.
The Muskies opened the game with a 14-4 spurt through the first four minutes of play. Muskingum rode the early momentum to a 36-31 lead at the break.
In the second half, Propst gave Waynesburg its lone lead of the contest at 47-46 with a basket with 10:15 to play. The Muskies immediately regained the edge on freshman Jacob Geller's first career three-pointer to put Muskingum up 49-47. The outing remained tight through the final nine minutes with the Muskies hitting clutch free throws late to seal the road victory.
Muskingum next hosts Oberlin on Wednesday, November 19. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. in the Recreation Center.
