Baseball scores 16 runs in DH action against #1 ranked Marietta
The Muskingum baseball team erupted for 16 runs on 23 hits in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against #1 ranked Marietta on Tuesday afternoon at Mose Morehead Field. The Pioneers escaped New Concord with the sweep after fending off the Muskies in game two, 10-8, and winning the opener, 19-8.

The Muskingum baseball team erupted for 16 runs on 23 hits in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against #1 ranked Marietta on Tuesday afternoon at Mose Morehead Field. The Pioneers escaped New Concord with the sweep after fending off the Muskies in game two, 10-8, and winning the opener, 19-8.

How it Happened
- In the nightcap, the Muskies tied the game at three apiece in the fifth inning off a two-run blast from junior Dominic Gorence.
- After the Pioneers added six runs in the seventh to take a 9-3 lead, Gorence cut the deficit to 9-6 with a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. Gorence's two home runs were his first of the season.
- Muskingum pulled to within 9-8 in the bottom of the eighth on sophomore Quinten Collins' two-run single.
- After the Pioneers added an insurance run in the top of the ninth, the Muskies brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom half of the inning, but Marietta was able to fend off the Muskie challenge and escape New Concord with the win.
Inside the Numbers
- In game one, the Muskies were led by sophomore Gavin Hawk who finished with four RBIs. Hawk also tallied a run scored in the opening game as well.
- Junior Devin Ryan finished 3-for-4 in game one with four runs scored and a walk, while senior Trey Yoder tallied a 1-for-4 line with an RBI and run scored.
- Sophomore Jaxon Rinkes started game on the mound for the Muskies. Rinkes pitched four innings, giving up 11 earned runs and collecting two strikeouts. Freshman Austin Lippolis and senior Drew Eaches also made appearances in relief for the Muskies.
- Game two was highlighted by the power hitting of junior Dominic Gorence. Gorence finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBIs, and two runs scored.
- Sophomore Quinten Collins notched a 3-for-4 line with two RBIs and two runs scored in the night cap, while sophomore Tyler Arter went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in game two.
- Sophomore Noah Moser started on the bump for the Muskies in game two. Moser pitched six innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out three Pioneer batters. Sophomores Clark Jennings and Liam Carey both pitched in relief for the Muskies out of the bullpen.

- The Muskies will be back in action on Friday, April 15, when they travel to take on Ohio Northern in an OAC doubleheader. Game one is slated for 1:00 p.m.
