Muskies Fall Short at The Captains Classic

The Muskies finished up at the Captains Classic with a 0-4 record. On day one, Muskingum matched up against #21 Christopher Newport, and the Muskies lost 3-0. The Muskies then would fall 3-1 to Mt. St. Joseph. On day two of the tournament, the Muskies would go up against #16 Wis.-Stevens Point and would fall 3-0. Muskingum would end the tournament falling against Randolph-Macon, 3-1.

Game 1: Muskingum vs. #21 Christopher Newport (L,3-0)

 The Muskies kept it close but couldn't squeeze out a win losing 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21).

How it Happened

• The Muskies would tie up the first set at 6-6 early on.
• The Captains would then go on a 10-2 run and take a 16-8 lead over the Muskies.
• The Muskies would rally back to cut the Captains lead to 4 (21-17), but would end up falling short. 
• In the second set, the Muskies would trail 18-16, but would not be able to claim the lead and end up falling 25-21.
• The third set would be tied 11-11. The Captains would go on a 10-5 run and end up taking the third and final set.

• Senior Khloe Taylor led the team in kills with 8.
• Sophomore Emma Johnson added 8 kills.
• Freshman Chloe Burton had an additional 4 kills.
• Freshman Katharine Clayton led the team with 10 digs.
• Sophomore Abby Buchtel added 8 more digs with her defensive efforts.
• Sophomore Josie Niemeyer led the team in blocks with 2.

Game 2: Muskingum vs. Mt. St, Joseph (L,3-1)

The Muskies would battle but would end up falling short, losing 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19).

How It Happened

• The first set was tied at 11-11, then the Lions would go on a 14-6 run to end the first set.
• The Muskies would come out strong in the second set with a 10-5 lead.
• The Lions would battle back to tie the second set at 20-20.
• The Muskies would be too much for the Lions winning the second set 25-22.
• In the third set, Muskingum comes out with a 2-0 lead. The Lions would answer back taking the lead and not look back winning 25-16.
• The fourth set was a close one at 22-19 advantage of the Lions. The Lions would end up winning 25-19.

• Senior Khloe Taylor led the team in kills with 10.
• Sophomore Emma Johnson helped the team with her 8 kills and also led the team with 2 blocks.
• Freshman Katharine Clayton led the team with 16 digs.
• Freshman Chloe Burton recorded an additional 10 digs.

How it Happened

• Muskingum would fall 25-17 in the first set
• In set two, Muskingum would come out with a commanding 20-10 Lead and would take set two 25-16.
• The Yellow Jackets would come out strong on a 10-3 run in set 3.
• The Muskies would be able to cut the lead to 5 but would not be able to overcome the Yellow Jackets.
• Set four would be a back-and-forth match and would be tied 17-17. Muskies would fall short and lose the final set 25-21.

Inside the Numbers

• Senior Khloe Taylor would lead the team with 13 kills.
• Freshman Mackenzie Krous led the team with 19 digs and had an additional 11 Kills.
• Freshman Katharine Clayton helped the Muskies with an additional 13 digs.
• Sophomore Chloe Burton would lead the team with 20 assists.
