Trailing entering the heavyweight match, the Muskies needed a tech fall or pin to secure the dual. Sophomore Robert Edwards Jr. delivered in emphatic fashion, recording an 18-1 technical fall at 4:44 to seal the one-point victory.
The win marked a milestone for Muskingum Head Coach Cameron Timok, as it was the first dual victory of his collegiate head coaching career.
Muskingum picked up key bonus points throughout the night to stay within striking distance. Junior Lee Zoganas earned a fall at 141 pounds, pinning JT Hagood at 4:12, while freshman Breyden Hill added a crucial technical fall at 174 pounds with a 19-3 victory over Kaden Duke.
At 184 pounds, senior Caden Kenworthy provided another momentum swing for the Muskies, securing a quick pin in just 57 seconds. Earlier in the match, sophomore Joseph Slatzer earned a forfeit victory at 133 pounds to add six team points
Hiram countered with several wins of its own, including falls at 149, 165, and 197 pounds, keeping the dual tightly contested until the final whistle.
Before the match, Muskigum honored seniors Caden Kenworthy and Gavin Greer.
Muskingum will return to action at the Hilltopper Duals at West Liberty on Sunday, December 21.
