Records fall as women's basketball downs Mt. St. Joseph

The Muskingum women's basketball team set school records for most three-point shots made (18) and assists (30) en route to beating Mount St. Joseph on Monday afternoon in the Steele Center, 90-69.

• The Muskies connected on 18-of-29 shots to set the school record for three-point shots made in a game. The previous record was 15, which was accomplished last year against Wilmington.
• The three-point barrage was led by sophomore Taylor DeMassimo who had a team-high of six, freshman Kenzie Bicking who sank four, freshman Milayna Williams with three, freshman Brooke Baird with two, senior Tanner Wirth with two, and freshman Halle Morehead who chipped in one.
• The Muskies also dished out 30 assists to set the school record for assists in a game. The previous record was 29 set in the 2007-08 campaign season against Franciscan.
• Senior Tanner Wirth had a team-high seven assists, while freshman Kenzie Bicking tallied five, and junior Casey Smith registered four.

• Five Muskies scored in double digits to pace the offensive surge.
• The Muskies were guided by sophomore Taylor DeMassimo who finished with a season-high 22 points, snagged a team-high 12 rebounds, and dished out two assists. DeMassimo shot 6-of-9 (66.7%) from deep and 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the field.
• Freshman Milayna Williams finished the day with 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
• Freshman Kenzie Bicking registered a season-high 14 points.

How Happened

• Out of the gate, Muskingum seized control of the first quarter connecting on six three-point shots and shot 50.0% from the field. Leading the Muskie early charge was DeMassimo with eight and Williams with seven points. The Muskies hot shooting led them to a 26-11 lead after the opening quarter.
• The second quarter saw the Muskies adding another six triples, this time from Bicking, freshman Halle Morehead, Williams, Wirth, and DeMassimo. The Muskies would use a 25-point surge to extend their lead to 51-36 going into the break.
• The Muskies finished the first half 12-of-17 (70.6%) from deep and 18-of-32 (56.3%) from the field. They also ended the half with 18 assists.
• The Lions used a 17-point surge in the third quarter to draw within four of the Muskies with 4:00 remaining in the quarter, but the Muskies went on a 9-5 run grabbing a 66-58 heading into the final period.
• Fueled behind three DeMassimo triples, the Muskies would have a 24-11 advantage in the final period, ensuring a Muskingum 90-69 win.
• Muskingum finished the second half 16-of-27 (59.3%) from the field and 6-of-12 (50.0%) from deep. They dished out 12 assists.
