The Muskingum Athletic Department has announced the promotion of Lucas Worrell to Associate Head Coach for the Muskingum men's basketball program.
Worrell joined the Muskies in 2022 and has been a driving force behind the program's rise under Head Coach Nathan Wahle, the reigning Ohio Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Over the past three seasons, Worrell's work in recruiting, scouting, and player development has helped shape Muskingum into one of the OAC's top contenders.
"Lucas has played an instrumental role in turning our basketball program into an OAC contender," said Coach Wahle. "In our first three seasons together, he tirelessly recruited the right type of guys, helped transform our offense, and prepared our team for success heading into each game with his scouting reports. He has taken pride in developing our players in the weight room, in the film room, and on the court. The promotion to associate head coach is well deserved, and I am grateful to have him by my side."
Before joining Muskingum, Worrell spent one season as an assistant coach at Bethany College and two years as a graduate assistant at Ashland University, where he helped the Eagles win their first GLIAC Tournament Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament Round of 32. He also coached at MacMurray College and his alma mater, Illinois College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 2017. A native of Jacksonville, Illinois, Worrell brings a strong mix of experience, energy, and leadership to the Muskie bench.
The announcement comes as Muskingum enters the 2025–26 season with high expectations. The Muskies were picked third in the OAC Preseason Coaches Poll after finishing fourth in the league and reaching the OAC Tournament Semifinals last year.
