Men's Basketball streaks past John Carroll

The Muskingum men's basketball team streaked past John Carroll in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, 85-79.

Notable

• Junior Marcus Dempsey scored a game-high 38 points to move into fourth place all-time in Muskingum scoring with 1,561 career points. Dempsey passes Lennie Nelson who played for the Muskies from 1954-58.

Inside The Numbers

• Dempsey scored 38 points off 12-of-22 shooting, 6-of-10 from behind the arc, and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. He also added five rebounds and six assists.
• Sophomore Trey Singleton added 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting and dished out three assists.
• Junior Tyler Bardall chipped in nine points going 3-of-6 from the three-point line.
• Leading the Blue Streaks was Conner Fitzgerald with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting with four rebounds.
• Jimmy Berger added 16 points off 7-of-12 shooting, while snatching six rebounds and handing out seven assists.
• The Muskies ended the game going 30-of-62 (.484) from the floor and went 12-of-25 from the three-point line.
• John Carroll ended the game shooting 30-of-57 (.526) from the floor and going 11-of-24 from behind the arc.
• The Blue Streaks committed 17 turnovers, while the Muskies only committed seven turnovers during the game.

Game Highlights

During the first half, the Muskies were down 36-25 with 5:49 remaining before halftime. The Muskies used a late charge over the final five minutes to trim their gap to 43-42 entering the break.

It was back-and-forth throughout the second half until Dempsey lit a spark for the team after a huge dunk to give the Muskies a 73-67 lead with less than six minutes remaining in the game. Several minutes later, Dempsey again ignited the Muskies with an ESPN highglight reel three-point basket that he was fouled on as the shot clock expired. Following the four-point play, Muskingum took control of the contest with an 82-73 lead en route to the big home OAC win.

• The Muskies next look to defend home court when they take on Waynesburg on Wednesday, December 18. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Anne C. Steele Center.
