Muskingum falls to Heidelberg in OAC play at the BHWC

The Muskingum University football team struck early and battled throughout four quarters, but ultimately fell to Heidelberg, 29–14, on Saturday afternoon at the Bullock Health and Wellness Complex.

The Muskies opened the scoring with an explosive strike in the first quarter, when senior quarterback Garrett Gurney connected with sophomore wide receiver John Christopher Gore on a 62-yard touchdown to give Muskingum a 7–0 advantage.

Muskingum continued to produce chunk plays on the ground behind sophomore running back Riley Woodie, who powered the offense with a 156-yard rushing performance, including a 50-yard breakaway run in the third quarter that electrified the home crowd.

Heidelberg answered the early Muskie charge with 20 unanswered points to take a 20-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Gurney and Gore linked up for their second score of the game, a 2-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, to pull Muskingum within 20–14.

However, Heidelberg responded by scoring the final nine points of the game to seal the result.
