After Muskingum's record-setting 56-49 win over Wilmington, three Muskies were recognized by the Ohio Athletic Conference for their outstanding play. Senior quarterback Garrett Gurney, sophomore defensive lineman Nathan Thomas, and sophomore kicker Aaron Ortega each earned OAC Player of the Week honors.
Gurney was named Offensive Player of the Week after turning in one of the best performances in school history. He completed 32-of-39 passes for a program-record 569 yards and seven touchdowns, tying the single-game school mark. He also set a new record for total offense in a game with 581 yards. His play fueled an offense that piled up 680 yards and delivered Head Coach Matt Nardo's first career win with the Muskies.
Thomas claimed Defensive Player of the Week after leading the charge up front. He finished with seven tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and four quarterback hurries, making big plays at key moments to help slow Wilmington's attack.
Ortega rounded out the honors, taking home Special Teams Player of the Week. He tied the school record with eight extra points made in a game, providing reliable points in what turned out to be a one-possession victory. He also averaged 61.3 yards per kickoff and 35.7 yards per punt.
