Muskingum Falls in Tight 7-5 Battle at Mary Washington

Muskingum held a two‑run lead entering the bottom of the eighth, but a four‑run surge by Mary Washington flipped the script as the Muskies fell, 7-5, on Saturday afternoon at Dickinson Stadium.

Mary Washington jumped ahead early with a three‑run second inning, but Muskingum chipped away and eventually seized momentum. Senior Sam Palmieri put the Muskies on the board in the third with an RBI double, then tied the game in the fifth with a solo home run to left.

In the sixth, Muskingum grabbed its first lead of the day when sophomore Ethan Bush delivered a two‑RBI single through the right side, scoring sophomore Daelyn Jarman and junior Grant Mellerson to put the Muskies up 4-3. Muskingum added another run in the eighth, as Bush scored on a Mary Washington throwing error to extend the advantage to 5-3.

But Mary Washington responded with a decisive four‑run bottom of the eighth, using an RBI double from Eric Powell, a two‑run single from Sean Smith, and an RBI double from Ryan Henson to recapture the lead for good.

Muskingum brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but the Eagles' bullpen closed the door to secure the 7-5 final.
