Baseball sweeps Chatham in season opener

The Muskingum baseball team swept Chatham in its season opener. The doubleheader was played in Cadiz, Ohio at Mazeroski Field. Muskingum won the opener 12-5 and took the nightcap in seven innings, 11-0.

• Junior Weston Melick had four RBIs and one run as he went 2-for-3 as a batter.
• Both sophomore Louie Hess and junior Tobie Teke both scored two runs and two stolen bases. Hess added a double as he went 1-for-2 from the field.
• Sophomore Sam Palmieri earned three runs and was walked three times.
• Sophomore Mike Davis and freshman Grant Mellerson each finished with a run.
• Freshman Shoei Yamashita pitched five innings, throwing 58 pitches and 43 strikes. Yamashita totaled four strikeouts and earned a win.
