Smith named Head Athletic Trainer

Smith arrives in New Concord after serving as the associate athletic trainer at Augustana College since 2013. She was also an assistant athletic trainer at Augustana from 2007-13. During her tenure at Augustana, Smith oversaw volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, baseball, and men's and women's tennis and was responsible for scheduling and coordinating the team physician's weekly visits. She revised and updated the Augustana Policy and Procedure Manual and developed and maintained the concussion return-to-learn policies. Smith also assisted with insurance claims and was instrumental in developing the training competencies for student assistants of athletic training.
"Anna brings a wealth of experience to our Athletic Training operations, and we are looking forward to her helping us positively lead the well-being of our student-athletes into the future," said Muskingum Director of Athletics Kari Winters. "Injury prevention and proper rehab strategies are critical in overall team performance, and we are excited to watch her continue the strong culture in and out of our AT room."
Before Augustana, Smith completed her work on her master's degree in athletic training at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where she completed a research project entitled The Effects of Four Different Landing Techniques on Ground Reaction Forces and Joint Kinematics. She received her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Weber State University in 2006 in Ogden, Utah, where she worked in the athletic department covering men's basketball, track & field, football, women's soccer, tennis, and cheerleading.
A native of Lancaster, Ohio, Smith is a member of several athletic trainers' associations, and she served as the in-charge athletic trainer at Miller High School in Corning, Ohio, during the 2006-07 school year. At Miller, Smith oversaw all football, volleyball, basketball, softball, track & field and cheerleading activities.
