Muskingum University will hold a private memorial service and private reception to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1989-90 women's basketball tragic van accident on Saturday, December 7. The memorial service will be held in Brown Chapel at 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the VIP room in the Anne C. Steele Center at 2:00 p.m. Both events are by invitation only.
Monday, November 18, marked 30 years since Michelle Simpson, 18, of Bristolville, Ohio, a freshman forward-center, and Mary Ann Smith, 20, of Coshocton, Ohio, a sophomore student assistant, passed away in the heartbreaking van accident on the way to a tournament at Frostburg State University. Members of the 1989-90 women's basketball team included Julie DeLuca, Barb Brown, Jody Kerns, Kristi Erner, Michelle Snow, Julie Hoag, Nikki Hall, Stacey Paul, Pam Price, Carrie Setla, Laurie Deal, Arica Robbins, Kriss Ayers, Kate Titus, Molly Pierce, Toni Moone, Shelley Rinkes, Michelle Harkness, Diana Smith, Debbie Hartsock, Andrea Weninger, student assistant Nan Mattern, assistant coach Kathy Lee, and head coach Donna Newberry.
Muskingum will have a moment of silence before the start of the women's basketball home game on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Muskies host 20th-ranked Baldwin Wallace in the Anne C. Steele Center for their Ohio Athletic Conference Opener.
